Barre classes in Shefford
Raise the Barre runs twice a week and is a full body, low impact workout made up of small, controlled movements, pulses and holds that start to burn far sooner than you would expect. Beth is a BarreConcept certified instructor and is also certified for pre and post natal barre, and you need no dance or barre background whatsoever to come along.
What Raise the Barre is
Small movements, big effect
Barre works through plenty of small, controlled movements, pulses and holds rather than big heavy lifts. It looks gentle from the outside and it is low impact on your joints, but it finds muscles you did not know you had and it does not take long.
Strength, posture and alignment
As well as the burn, the class works on strength, posture and alignment, which is why people who sit at a desk all week tend to get on with it. Beth gives options throughout so you can pitch it wherever feels right on the day.
No dance background needed
You do not need any dance or barre experience at all. Beth talks you through everything as the class goes, and the movements are small enough that there is nothing complicated to learn.
When it runs
Twice a week, on Monday evenings and Thursday mornings, both with Beth.

Common questions
Do I need dance experience for a barre class?
No, none at all. Despite the name and the ballet associations, barre is a fitness class made up of small controlled movements. Beth talks you through everything as you go.
Is barre a real workout if it is low impact?
Low impact means it is kind to your joints, not that it is easy. The pulses and holds work muscles for far longer than a normal rep would, which is why it burns the way it does.
Is it suitable during or after pregnancy?
Beth is Barre Body Pre and Post Natal certified, so yes, with the right modifications. Speak to her before the class starts so she can give you alternatives throughout.
What should I wear?
Something you can move in, and grip socks or bare feet rather than trainers. Bring water.
When does it run?
Monday evenings and Thursday mornings, twice a week.
Do I need a Vibes Gym membership?
No. Anyone can book. Vibes Gym members pay less per class, but membership is not required.
